10 Articles of Clothing That Are Timeless

Fads and trends have always puzzled me. It seems just as something becomes the “it” thing, it quickly fizzles out. A new fad or trend has now taken over and those left with the fashions and styles of yesterday are now the subject of ridicule.

No need to worry! I have compiled a list of 10 articles of clothing that are timeless. These simple accessories are great for enhancing a plethora of outfits while adding that classic flare!

The Scarf

A nice accessory scarf can enhance almost any outfit. It is best worn as an accent and is great if you are looking for a pop of color for an ensemble.

The Bow Tie

Gentlemen, I had this you in mind when I thought about this classic accent.  Bow ties have always been a traditional and classic accent to tuxedos and suits. Now, the bowtie is more prominent in today’s society. Women can now wear them as well. This is a classic accent to various types of ensembles.

The Mary Jane Pump

This pump screams sass and class simultaneously!  The straps of the shoe create the classic flare ladies love. The heel of the shoe accentuates the legs, adds height enhances sex appeal without promoting raunchiness.

The Flower

In my opinion, flowers are timeless. A nice flower added to a nicely pinned hairstyle can add flair and class while accentuating facial features, pop colors and other accessories worn.

The Loafer

The loafer is one of my favorites because it is stylish, comfortable and versatile. These are a must have in the closet!

The Newsboy Hat

The newsboy hat adds classic flare and style to many ensembles worn by either men or women. These headpieces come in a variety of colors and styles and look great all year long!

The Fedora

The fedora is yet another great versatile, unisex, classic piece of headwear. This item can enhance various ensembles and styles.

The Oxford

I love oxfords! They are awesome vintage shoes that can be worn by men and women. The essence of classic echoes through these shoes!

The Pearls

Pearls are not just for older women anymore! Gleaming with class, the pearl is a piece of jewelry that can be worn in a pin, as earrings and in the form of necklaces and bracelets in order to enhance ensembles subtly and classically.

The Gloves

Gloves can be worn to keep warm, keep classy or to keep stylish. The right gloves can be a great accent. Patterns such as leopard print and stripes should only be worn as an accent as gloves are considered to be an accessory.

From Intern to In Charge: 9 Things Every Young Professional Needs In Order to Succeed

1.      Padfolio (the best ones are with the organizers!)

The padfolio is one of my favorite business items. This item is available at office supply stores and is essential all professionals. Padfolios normally come with a legal pad which is essential for taking notes when in meetings. With an array of pockets, this item is great because it allows discrete and convenient storage for documents and important files. My personal favorites are the padfolios with the agenda organizer included. This allows you to keep track of important dates and events. This is a great investment!

2.      Business Cards

One of the worst mistakes any one can make is entering a room without business cards. Business cards are little tools that help you to brand and market yourself. There are opportunities for networking at every corner you turn. Being caught without a business card may present a less than ideal first impression. Keep business cards at your desk, on your person and in your padfolios!

3.      Updated résumé

Much like a business card, the résumé is an essential item to have. Having it handy at any given time shows you are eager and prepared. This is an item that should be in your padfolio at all times, especially if you are an intern or seeking employment.

4.      The Power Suit  (with proper accessories)

The right suit can create a world of opportunities. In a later post, I will outline the specifics of proper business attire. Clean and pressed items are always key! Colors such as black, gray, earth browns and navy blue are the most traditional colors in the workplace. Gentlemen, ties are always required and please remember those lesser mentioned accessories such as dress socks, tie clips & watches.

5.      Elegant Pen

An elegant pen speaks volumes. Unfortunately, not having a pen at all speaks volumes as well. When conducting business, a handsome pen should be on hand at all times. Elegant pens range in price. Please remember when shopping for pens that black and blue ink are the only appropriate colors when conducting business. (I personally prefer black!)

Please do not sign important documents with a pink, purple or floursecent colored pen.

6.      The flash drive

The flash drive is an amazing tool because it allows you to take work along with you anywhere you go. This small item allows you to save everything from important documents to charts, graphs and presentations. A flash drive is important because you have access to the documents you will need at your finger tips.

7.      The laptop

This item is important simply because it is portable which allows you to be mobile. The laptop should be used as a back up to your home and office computers. Please remember to utilize those flash drives!

8.      The Briefcase

Now that we have all of the items we will need in order to be successful in the workplace, it is important that we transport these items in style. The briefcase is an important tool because items such as cellular phones, laptops, files and the ever so important padfolio can all be transported quickly, safely and stylishly.

9.      Goals

Now that you’ve reached the job or your dreams, it is time to start preparing for the career of your dreams. Settling for what is convenient for the moment should not be a thought that crosses your mind. Be grateful and humbled by the opportunities that are presented to you but always reach for the stars.
